Copperwheat
At Copperwheat, a forward-thinking approach to renewable living has transformed the home into a shining example of energy self-sufficiency. The heart of the system is a 6.52kWp solar PV array, paired with a GivEnergy 13.5kWh AC-coupled storage battery and a whole-house backup gateway, ensuring that the home stays powered even during outages. To further support the property’s energy needs, particularly the demands of an 8kW Viessmann 150-A air source heat pump, a second 13.5kWh GivEnergy battery has been added. With a combined storage capacity of 27kWh, Copperwheat can comfortably balance generation and consumption, while still exporting surplus energy to the grid.
Behind the scenes, a robust full WiFi mesh system with a wired LAN network keeps both the ASHP and GivEnergy systems seamlessly connected, supported by WiFi 6 tri-band boosters for reliability across the property. With future plans for an EV charging point, the project is steadily evolving towards complete independence from the grid.
Already, Copperwheat has reached the impressive milestone of being self-sufficient, with exported electricity covering winter consumption, making it a living showcase of what’s possible with smart planning, quality technology, and a clear vision for sustainable living.
